Fall Friendly Eyeshadow Palettes!

Hello there readers,

As promised I have a post of palettes that I have collected that would make great fall eye looks.

These palettes can be used all year really, I just think there is something about them that makes them especially useful for doing fall makeup. I have a mix of high-end, drugstore, small and large palettes! 

I'm thinking of also doing a post about some really great dark fall appropriate lipsticks! Thoughts?

Anyhoo, on to the palettes! 

My first two palettes should come as no surprise. The original Naked and Naked2 palettes from Urban Decay (both $60) are just outstanding and I have raved about their quality before on my blog. They are absolutely worth the money you spend on them. If you're someone who likes warmer tones, golds and browns, I would say go for the original Naked. If you like cooler tones, in the way of silvers and taupes definitely get the Naked2. 

This is a well-loved palette of mine and I think it is amazing for the fall and winter time, especially for creating some great holiday looks for parties and what not. This is the Winterberry palette from Coastal Scents ($13) which is a website that offers amazing palettes at great affordable prices. It has a ton of wearable neutrals but also some great fall colours like the cranberry and the navy in the bottom row. You can get a really natural eye or a really dark smokey eye with this palette. 

The Lorac PRO palette ($55) has been everywhere lately and people just rave about this, so I had to try it! What makes this palette unique is that the entire top row of shadows is matte and the entire bottom row is shimmery. And the colours are well-thought out so you get everything you might need in one easy, convenient place. But it also has some unexpected colours like "Garnet" and "Mauve" that are really fall friendly. Not to mention this palette is so thing and light, it's incredibly travel friendly!

I love this palette! The Comfort Zone 8-pan palette from Wet'n'Wild is amazing and so affordable! The quality on these shadows is insanely good and the palette is under $5. There is some fallout with the shadows, so be careful to tap off you brush when using, but otherwise, I love this palette! Like many of the palettes in this post, there are some neutral, everyday colours but on the right side are some really great olive and forest greens to play with.

If you're trying to save space, this massive 88 Warm Palette from Coastal Scents ($24) is your best bet. It will most likely contain any neutral colour you need along with some darker, plum and brown shades in the bottom right hand corner. 

This palette is the newest edition to my collection, the Urban Decay Feminine Palette ($40). It has a great romantic, girly vibe to it. The "Bordello" shade (the first one, top row) is such a beautiful pinky mauve colour, it's so unique. I've used this everyday since I got it and it makes a beautiful feminine look or you could use "Gunmetal" to deepen it up. It's great quality, the lip gloss it comes with is great too, all around wonderful palette to have. Oh and as you can see in the top, right hand picture, the palette comes out of the case (it's magnetic, don't worry the magnet is very secure) so you can use the outside, zippered case to hold brushes or anything else! 

This quad is by far the bargain of the entire group! The Day 2 Night quad from e.l.f or eyeslipsface.com is only $1! And as you can see in the swatches, has great pigmentation. All four colours are coordinated so nicely to make a very soft neutral eye or a really great smokey fall look. This is definitely worth the money and great quality!

Barbie Pink Glitter Nails!

Hello lovely readers,
I'm back again with a really cute nail post!
I personally love how this turned out and will most likely do my nails like this again really soon.
It's a cute take on Barbie pink, glitter nails!

I love this! So girly and pink, definitely a look I wear a lot. I used a darker pink on three nails and accented my two middle nails with a milky, lighter pink polish. I also covered my accent nails with a chunky silver glitter to really make them pop and finish off the look.

Essie "Set in Stones" 

I love the way this Essie polish applies, very smooth despite being a chunky glitter polish. I definitely finished this nail look and gave my accent nails a really cute sparkle. Bonus: most chunky glitters are super hard to get off which means I don't wear as often as I'd like to. But when I was ready I just peeled my accent nails off in one go and it was effortless! I think that the thick, clear base of the glitter polish causes your nail polish to peel off as one piece. 

I set everything with a clear top coat which is especially important when using glitter because it can make your nails can feel rough. Overall, a very cute, girly look for summer with a touch of sparkle! I will be wearing this again for sure!

Just a Few Things..

• Speaking of, should I do a post when I get back with some pictures from my vacation? Maybe one before I go of what my travel makeup bag looks like? Let me know if you'd like to see that!
• Working on a really quick, and easy summer eye look post that I've been wearing non-stop lately. 
• I think it's official. I just put How I Met Your Mother on even if I don't really want to watch. It's comforting. Such a great show, definitely my favourite!
• Recently took Wet'n'Wild's "Club Havana" nail polish off my toenails which looked amazing. I am considering painting them with the "Candylicious" colour from above. 
• I've already got a big floppy, beachy sun hat. I'm going to wear it to the airport. Yea, I'm gonna be that girl at the airport - the one who's clearly on her way to a tropical vacation and doesn't care if anyone knows it.
• Now I'm rethinking wearing that- it might be a pain at security checks...
• Can you tell I'm excited? Geez, shut up already about it, Tash.
• I love anyone and everyone who actually reads my blog. lol

Nail Post: Summer Sunshine!

Hello all,
I have a nail post for you lovely readers.
I love nothing more than wearing bright nail polish in the summer, I think it's always a great way to compliment an outfit and really make a statement about your style.
So without further ado, my brightest nail colour yet...

Readers, meet Essence Colour and Go nail polish in "Wanna be your Sunshine"-

aptly named I would say. Essence is a bargain drugstore brand that just recently came to Canada (was only in the US before) and can be found in Shopper Drug Mart now! This polish was only $1.49! Crazy right?

I also used Essie's "Shine of the Times" over my fourth nail for an accent. It's a really beautiful holographic glitter polish that sparkles gold, pink, orange, green, yellow and is to date the most unique nail polish that I own. It's just so hard to describe. 

The Essie polish reflects light gorgeously. Not that this yellow polish needs it.  

All in all, I am liking the nail polishes I have tried from Essence so far! It's not often that a company puts out a yellow that's not too mustard or too green, but can also be opaque in just two coats. Essence made one that does both, which is impressive in my opinion. I have a yellow from OPI that doesn't even do that. Score one for Shoppers Drug Mart and welcome to Canada, Essence!

Ombre Orange/Coral Nails!

Hello blog readers (the few of you there are)!
I have a nail post for you today! I have a makeup haul and review coming up shortly with some products from The Balm, but it turns out that post is a little more labour intensive than I thought it would be.
So for now, a nail post it is!

Ombre Nails! Quick note about them: they are not easy. You could go the route where you pick one polish and dilute it with some drops of white polish so it gets paler for each nail. But it turns out I have so much freakin nail polish I had four orange/coral colours that actually created a really smooth gradient. I used the same colour for both my thumb and index finger. This isn't the best pain job I've ever done, but it sure is difficult to paint your nails four different colours. Give me a little credit.

It's a really cute, bright and fun look for summertime! Not to mention it goes with the whole ombre trend that's kind of happening in fashion (I think...).

Review: Physician's Formula Nude Palette

Hello again makeup junkies,

I recently picked up a few palettes both drugstore and high-end and I noticed that recently there's a huge trend among most brands to release "nude" or "natural" palettes that contain a lot of browns, taupes, and champagne colours. People love palettes like that because they're easy to use, portable (travel-friendly) and convenient. Urban Decay has both the Naked and the Naked2 palettes, both of which I own and are fantastic and totally worth the money. However I recently saw a nude eyes palette from Physician's Formula and wanted to see if it was a comparable drugstore dupe.

I have to say the packaging alone is gorgeous! Light pink with a black lace overlay and bows, obviously I was in love. 

Colours range from light champagnes and pinks to medium browns and taupes with some darker browns and a black at the bottom. This is a perfect set-up for a nude palette because it give you enough options that you could also make a darker, smokey eye with it. It comes with an angled sponge-tip which you could use for some liner if you wanted. I think the palette costs about $10.

Bottom line

This looks strikingly similar to some of the high-end nude eye palettes I own so I had high hopes for it. Sadly, I can't say I love it. It could work for people with lighter skin than me maybe. But for my darker skin, the entire top half of the palette is not pigmented enough to even show up. The bottom half is alriiight I guess but I still had to pack it on. What I really didn't like is that these shadows were somewhat hard and I didn't like the consistency which made them harder to blend. It is probably also important to mention that all these shades are very shimmery and there are no matte shades in the whole palette which makes it harder to use on its own.

I have used mine twice at the most. I would use my Naked palettes any day over this. While I'm aware they are more expensive ($60) the quality is absolutely worth it. The shadows are creamy, almost like butter and blend beautifully. Not to mention, these palettes contain 12 shadows which makes each shadow only $5 a pop, not bad for Urban Decay. And hey, if you still can't bring yourself to spend $60 on makeup, I totally get it. Try an 8-pan palette from Wet'n'Wild (my absolute favourite drugstore brand for eyeshadow) called "Comfort Zone." Creamy shadows and great pigmentation and I'm pretty sure it only costs $4.99! So in the end, I would say MAYBE if you had really fair skin this could work for you. But if you have darker skin, don't bother. This will just sit in your makeup drawer. 

(It's occurring to me now just how many nude palettes I own. Maybe I'll do a post on all of my favourites, both high-end and drugstore).

Avengers Series: Black Widow

Look at me, not failing at sticking to my blogging. I'm a winner and so are you (because you're reading it).
On with my Avengers series, which I highly doubt I will finish before the movie comes out but there's not hard in trying.
Tonight's attempt: Black Widow otherwise known to non-comic book readers as the hot, badass Scarlett Johansson plays in Iron Man 2.
I credit this photo as my inspiration as I am definitely not creative enough to have come up with this concept on my own.

Holy cow was this harder than the Hulk makeup. Jeebs. Okay first I started with my brows. I know I promised I'd do a thing on how to blank out your eyebrows but this look required black eyebrows, so it wasn't necessary for me. I will next time. Double promise. 

Filled in the eyebrows with a very dark black powder and concealed around the edges with a light concealer. 

Covered my lid with a black creamy base (limited edition from MAC called "Bat Cave"). WARNING: This product creases like no other. You can see it almost creasing in the photo and I JUST did the makeup. You are warned. 

Topped the base with the darkest black powder I have. This look requires a cut crease which for makeup n00bs is essentially when you have a stark contrast between the lid colour and crease colour with little to no blending. They are supposed to loon completely separate and defined. My orange wasn't super pigmented so it was hard to do this, but I tried. 

Above that I added a lemon yellow colour and again left it unblended. 

That's what I love about fun looks like this, you get to break all the so-called makeup rules.

I ran a concealer that is about 3 shades light for me under my eye to brighten my browbone area. 

Not gonna lie, love me some false lashes. These are the 109's from Ardell in black. and lined my lid with a gold glitter liner. I seriously have glitter everywhere now. Good lord. It also got all over my falsies, which I couldn't do anything about. Anyhoo, I rimmed my waterline, tightline and lower lashline with a black eyeliner (MAC "Feline" eye kohl) and added mascara.

Despite the face that it's really messy, I kinda like it. More to come with the Avengers!

Lookbook: Colourful Springtime Look

Good lord do I know how to fail at blogging eh?
Oh well. Reading week will yield as many posts as possible and after that, I can't promise anything.
I finally got around to photographing some eye looks that I really love.
This one is quite bold, not really your everyday, "just going grocery shopping look" unless this is what you were to go grocery shopping- in which case, you're awesome.

As the title suggests, I used a lot of springtime, bright fun colours for this look. Skipped the dark eyeliner on my top lid because my eyes are small and it tends to eclipse my makeup when I wear it. I did however tightline my upper waterline and lower waterline with black liner. 

*Tip: Always do that if you're going for a long, thick eyelashes. It instantly makes it look like your lashes are thicker, darker and longer.

Products used:

All the specific eyeshadows used are listed below.

Left: "Robin's Egg" MAC (matte, LE)  I love this colour so much.

Right: "Sharp" MAC, the bottom corner, lime green colour (satin, LE) 

Left: "Blue Had Me At Hello" palette by Wet'n'Wild (the bright teal colour stamped "eyelid")

Right: "Lust" palette by Wet'n'Wild (two dark purples along the left)

*Both of these palettes are drugstore, very affordable and GREAT value. The pigmentation is phenomenal.

I placed a bright yellow shadow (not pictured because I couldn't find it afterwards) in the inner corner of your eye and along the first quarter of my eyelid. I followed that with the lime green colour from MAC and blended the two colours together to prevent a line. Next I added "Robin's Egg" and the teal from the Wet'nWild palette on the middle to the edge of my lid and blended it in the with the green. It's REALLY important to blend every colour you use, especially when you do a colourful look, otherwise lines will be plainly visible.

I created the outer "v" shape with the light and dark purples from the "Lust" palette mixed together. I took those up into the crease of my eye and blended them out. I used the matte cream shade from the same palette as my highlight on my browbone. 

I mirrored the colours in the same places alone my lower lashline to balance out the look.

I skipped the black liner and just used some mascara. If I remember correctly I used Definicils by Lancome.

*Tip: Colourful looks like this tend to produce A LOT of fallout from the eyeshadows. You can see it, on the back of my lashes in the photo above. Be careful and pat eyeshadow on, don't swipe. And if it's really built up on your lashes, run your mascara behind your lashes as well to cover it up.

This is what happens when you try to photograph too many looks for blog posts, all in one day.

You end up looking like Two-Face. Fml.
